What Else Is There Today? GO BLUE!

Heres to the best 14 years ever. Here’s to today. The anniversary day of the beginning of those fabulous 14 years!

It all started on the campus of The University of Michigan with a run through campus, by Zingerman’s and the Bell Tower with my friend, Steve. It was a beautiful day. 70. Sunny. Blooms bursting all around campus. I needed clarity that day. But I got much more. It really was the best run ever. I remember thinking, my whole life has been leading me to this very moment.

And so, today, like many big days in our lives, I’m thinking about happy times, a happy run, Big Blue and looking around the room during our big party and thinking, this is a day I won’t forget. Ever. And I’m overwhelmed by all that we’ve done over these wonderful 14 years. It’s amazing what life brings, isn’t it? It’s a happy day.

Cheers!

Do you take time to run on the most important days in your life? Like when?

May your next run be a good one.

Working It Out

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Ever have one of those days where you think all is well then you find out that something has gone terribly wrong? Maybe a friend lets you down; Something you’ve worked hard to accomplish falls through; At the moment of taking on a run you’ve orchestrated, you find you cannot complete it because you’ve suddenly fallen ill.

It’s days like these that require each of us to dig deep and make use of that sudden change of plans without feeling totally disappointed. This weekend, I found myself feeling pretty crummy. Against every grain of my being, I pulled myself together, crawled into bed and resigned myself to resting–something I hate to do. In order to coax myself into settling down, I decided to take on something I absolutely love and grabbed a book I was planning to read: Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer. Fabulous.

Meyer’s characters exude such tension and yearning from the first page of the book, that a reader who loves a good character sketch gets caught quickly in her web. I love it. Can’t put it down. When will I find time to run?

I was nearly sad to wake up the next day feeling healthy again. And yes, I did enjoy a run in the pouring rain, with my fave person in the world. It was a relaxed run without any big hills or fast speed, but a ton of chatting and laughing. Just what I needed to keep me from spending the day curled up reading the entire book one of the Twilight Series! More on that later.

May your next run be a good one.

Worst Run In Months!

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

I look forward to Sundays. I relish them. It’s the only day in recent memory that has become sacred because I spend the morning with my boyfriend. We run together. Just like we did when we were dating. Nothing spoils this time together. Or at least, nothing had spoiled this time together. Until today.

Today we started our run, only to find the road underneath our shoes covered in ice. And snow. And lots and lots of tracks frozen into that ice. And snow. Uneven footing. Slippery survaces. Deep, crunchy snow.

YUCK! It was the worst run in months! My ankles screamed at me: STOP!

My boyfriend kept talking. A nice distraction.

But really? Ice. Snow. TRACKS!

About 3/4 the way through, the road became clear and we both cheered. Out loud. Like kids. Those first 4 miles were brutal. The last 2 were bliss.

So maybe it wasn’t a totally ruined run. Besides, I did get all the fun of hanging with my fave person. But when I tell you I don’t ever want to run in conditions like that again ever never, I’m not being melodramatic. That was horrifying!

That’s why I’m eating one more brownie. Kudos to us. Kudos to you!

May your next run be a good one.

Happy New Year Run!

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

I often say that my fave day of the week is Sunday, when I get the chance to run with my fave person. Do you have someone who brightens your day by just doing stuff with you that you love?

I resolve, in 2009, to do more of my favorite things with my favorite peeps.

How are your resolutions going? Cheers to you and yours! Bring it on in 2009!

May your next run be a good one.

Running With My Boyfriend

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Sometimes I get to run with special people.  For years it was tricky getting to run with my boyfriend.  My favorite person.  My husband.  My bff.  But now, I get to run with him every Sunday morning.  Here’s one of the things we see while we run:

Beautiful, yes?  Even at 32 degrees, we’re psyched to be out there, just like when we were dating.  It’s my favorite day of the week.

Who do you run with?  Do you listen to your ipod?  Got a favorite song?  Sometimes you’ve got to do something that makes it worth it, especially when it’s cold enough like today, to say, maybe I’ll stay home.

Whatever or whoever it is that makes a run special, plan one this week.  Tell me about it!  I’d love to get inspired by you.

I’ve got 3 good runs to get me through the yummiest holiday week of the year.  More on that later…

May your next run be a good one.
